See below answers to some common questions we get asked about metal garden benches.

How to clean a rusty cast iron bench?

Cast iron will begin to rust if it is not finished properly. Fortunately, though, rust is easy to clean off cast iron! To do so, you’ll need a wire brush. To remove rust from cast iron, simply rub this wire brush in a circular motion across the rusty patches until it has worn away.

Once you have removed the rust from your cast iron bench, you can clean it thoroughly with soapy water. Then, ideally, you should treat your cast iron bench to reduce the risk of it rusting again.

Why buy a metal garden bench?

Metal is a fantastic material for outdoor furniture as it is hardy and durable enough to withstand regular use and changing weather. A metal garden bench will last years and years and won’t require a lot of maintenance over this time. A simple wipe down with soapy water is the most you’ll have to do with a metal garden bench, so long as it is treated against rust. Plus, metal garden benches often have much more intricate designs and patterns than their wooden counterparts, making for a wonderful focal point and interesting seating solution in any garden.

How to restore a cast iron bench?

Restoring a cast iron bench will require a little D.I.Y knowledge and plenty of time. However, the results are worth it! To restore a cast iron bench, we’d suggest cleaning it well, painting it over, and replacing the seat with timber slats for a sturdy bench.

To start restoring a cast iron bench, you should remove any old hardware or bolts from the ends of the bench using a hacksaw. Then, remove any loose grime and rust with a wire brush and clean the bench with soapy water. Learn how to clean a metal bench thoroughly with our guide.
