Garden Parasol FAQ's

See below answers to some common questions we get asked about garden parasols.

Click an item to read the FAQ.

What is a parasol?

A parasol is a fold-away canopy supported by metal or wooden ribs and often mounted on a plastic, metal or wooden pole. Parasols are similar in appearance to umbrellas, only on a larger scale, and are usually used in gardens and public spaces to provide shelter.

How to clean a garden parasol?

To clean a garden parasol, you should start by removing any surface dirt and grime with a brush. Then, use a soft sponge and soapy water to wipe down the parasol and its pole. If you’ve spotted mildew on your parasol, you can add distilled white vinegar to the water. Finally, rinse off the parasol with a hose or buckets of clean water and leave it open to dry on a sunny day.

How to put up a garden parasol?

How you put up a garden parasol depends on the type of parasol you have and how often you wish to use it. For example, if you want to prioritise portability, you should choose a parasol with a removable base.

Generally, though, to put up a garden parasol that fits into a parasol base, you can do so in a few steps. First, once you have the base where you’d like your parasol to stand, you should place the pole of the parasol into the base. Depending on the parasol, you may be able to secure this with screws or a screw-in mechanism. Once your parasol is secure in its base, you can use the handle or switch to open the parasol as wide as you’d like and position it, if possible, to best shield you from the sun.
